VINITALY 2015 RO/EN

Dragi prieteni,
Anul acesta, in perioada 22-25 martie, a avut loc targul de vinuri Vinitaly.

Dear friends,

This year, between 22-25th of March, there was the wine fair Vinitaly. At its 49th edition, it had more than 150 000 visitors, of which 55 000 were from other countries, over 2600 jurnalists from 46 countries (me among them, therefore I would like to thank the organizers for the press accreditation given to the blog: www.blog.pistoanebaricate.ro). To continue with technical details, I can tell you that there were some specific international visitors from more than 140 countries and the exhibition unfolded throughout the 10 hectares gathered more than 4000 exhibitors. It is worth mentioning that Vinitaly besides the wine exhibitors has also one of wiemaking equipment ENOLITECH, SOL & AGRIFOOD, where not only olives and olive oil producers may be found, but other products as well.
I appreciate very much that even the small producers, the ones who make organic and biodynamic farming had an entire section on their own where they could present their wines at small stands, but cozy and sufficient for a wine producer’s needs who is most of the times a ”one man show”, meaning he is working, he is the winemaker and he is the one you can talk to at the stand. I had the pleasure to see again Roberto di Filippo, presenting his biodynamic wines produced within a winery in Italy. For those who do not know, Roberto is a ”one man show” in Romania as he is responsible for the holding and the winemaking of the Winery: Delta Dunarii – la Sapata. He presents proudly his Aligote 2014 at Vinitaly, of an incredible quality which might win almost any contest of Aligote. Lucky for him, good year, nice people, good hand and here is the miracle. Still, I will write a different article about Roberto and his wines. Anyway, I promissed him I would organize a workshop in Bucharest.
IMG_2793 Let me tell you some general things related to the event: huge – everything is on a grand scale from the halls where exhibitors stood to the one-storey buildings for each exhibitor. Sincerely, I must say I felt like a lost kid within a oak forest, the only difference was me being afraid of not finding the exit too quickly.
Everything clean, there was a wonderful organization and service spaces for all types of visitors who might have needed, the restaurant area. On terms of wines, the Italians’ presence was overwhelming, all regions and names were there together with their wines. Unfortunately, the four days were not enough to meet all the exhibitors. Hence, I followed my instinct and I was focused on the international part. This is how I participated at a tasting supported by the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs where the most representative wines of this country were present. A rigorous selection of 14 wines delighted my taste buds.
There were many events, many master classes and workshops. I would mention only the one held by the winner of the IWSC’s 2015 – Tyson Stelzer who let his people convince themselves if the cork was better or not than the “screw caps” by bringing 5 pairs of wines whose main difference was the cork. Do not think that there were other wines than the best ones from Australia. Conclusions in other article as well. There must be mentioned the charismatic Jean-Charles Viens who sustained a master class about the Australian terroir and one of the top wines from New Zealand.
Going back to our hosts, I could not tell what I enjoyed most, it might be easier for me to say what I did not like: water as it was a little bit cold.
A concept I mostly appreciated was: “Doctor Wine Tasting Room”, a tasting room where there was a number of “enomatic” dispensers with a selection of more than 100 wines, which you could have tasted, you could have even talked about them with the others. Here was the place I spend some good hours tasting almost all wines – a wonderful idea.                                                                                                                                          IMG_2617
Despite of the fact that Vinitaly is an event which might be analyzed in some episodes, in few pages, as I do not want to be charged of getting too deep into details, I conclude by saying that Vinitaly is a “must”, a “pilgrimage” that any winelover should follow.
See you soon, my dears and remember that Vinitaly celebrates 50 years of existence in 2016. We wish him Happy Birthday and I will be there waiting for you in 2016!
